Harold (Hal)'s Story
Life
Dr. Hal Wissel is presently a consultant for NBA teams. Wissel served as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors during the 2006-07 season, and assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2002-05. Hal was an advance scout with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2000-01 season. Wissel was an assistant coach/advance scout with the New Jersey Nets ('96-00) and Director of Player Personnel with the Nets ('95-96). He also served as a scout and special assignment coach with the Milwaukee Bucks for five seasons ('90-95) and assistant coach and head scout with the Atlanta Hawks ('76-77).
Hal Wissel compiled over 300 wins as a collegiate head coach at Springfield College (1986-90), the University of North Carolina-Charlotte ('82-85), Florida Southern ('77-82), Fordham ('71-76), Lafayette College ('67-71) and Trenton State ('64-67). He led Florida Southern to four straight trips to the NCAA Div. II Tournament, three straight trips to the Div. II Final Four in '80, '81, and '82 and the Div. II NCAA Championship in '81. Wissel was named Div. II National Coach of the Year in '80. In 1972, Wissel was named Eastern Coach of the Year by Coach and Athlete Magazine leading Fordham to the NIT Tournament. Wissel has been inducted into the Florida Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame and the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame. Hal was also selected Sunshine State Conference Silver Aniversary Coach in 1998. Wissel coached the Dominican Republic National Team in 1975.

der of Basketball World, which conducts basketball camps and clinics worldwide and also produces and distributes books and DVDs. Basketball World conducts SHOOT IT BETTER Mini Camps worldwide for players from NBA and WNBA to youth level. Now in its 37th year, Basketball World in now owned and operated by his son Paul.
Dr. Wissel is a published author of two successful coaching books Basketball: Steps to Success which has been translated into seven languages, and Becoming a Basketball Player: Individual Drills which has been made into five videos. Coach Wissel has recently produced four Basketball Shooting DVDs.
Wissel received his bachelor's degree in physical education from Springfield College in 1960, his master's degree from Indiana University in '61 and his doctorate in physical education from Springfield College in '70.
Hal and his wife Trudy have five children: Steve, Scott, David, Paul and Sharon, and one granddaughter, Stephanie. Trudy and Hal are owners of End of Hunt Equestrian Center, Suffield CT. Everyone in the Wissel family is a coach. Trudy and Steve coach riding and conduct horse shows. Paul owns and operates Basketball World and also scouts for NBA teams. Paul is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild. Scott is advance scout for the LA Clippers. Sharon coaches skating, does choreography for TV and movies. Sharon is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
